2016 Shawnee National Forest Quarter

Obverse a restored version of the original 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan.

The reverse of the coin depicts a close view of Camel Rock in the Garden of the Gods wilderness area within the Shawnee National Forest, with a red-tailed hawk soaring overhead.

The Shawnee National Forest is located in Illinois and is the largest natural area in the state.

It was the first quarter released in 2016 and the 31st coin in the overall America the Beautiful Quarters program, which honors national parks and sites across the U.S. and its territories.
